Using Music to Battle Poverty

As many of you know, today is Blog Action Day. So many of us bloggers are taking time to blog about poverty and what we can do to help. Because I’m in the music business, I’d like to take some time to talk about poverty and how music can change the world.

I grew up in the 80’s. As a child, I was sheltered from the plight of those who lived in abject poverty. However, there was a man, Bob Geldof, who used the power of music to make our entire generation aware.

Bob Geldof organized musicians together all across the globe, first to record the Band-Aid Single “Feed The World” and then to create a concert event that would spread the word about poverty in an effort to eradicate it. This concert event had a profound effect on me and others. Bob Geldof’s efforts shows us that we could use the power of music to transcend different cultures, languages and personalities and come together to fight poverty.

Sir Geldof is still fighting the good fight, and obviously, so should we. More than 1/2 of the world lives in and suffers from poverty.

So ask yourself… what can I do with my music or music business to help others?

You may be surprised with the answers and ideas you come up with.

Music can change the world. WE can change the world.

Let’s all come together and make poverty history.

Here’s a good place to start:
