We would just like to state that our thoughts are with the people of Haiti as they go through this extremely difficult time. And we would like to request that you donate something/anything to help them get the food, supplies, shelter, medicine and water that they so desperately need.

According to The Village Voice:

As of ‘09, bands have an official life span of about nine months dating from the launch of their MySpace pages, thanks to the comically accelerated, DSL-enhanced hype cycle. Faster than you can tweet “Serena Maneesh,” entire genres of music are “discovered” by attention-starved writers; bloggers engage in hilarious slap-fights about who was there first; magazines feel pressured into writing clueless, hackazoid, late-pass trend pieces; bands get elevated to a critical mass of attention they can’t possibly handle; and the phenomenon is promptly abandoned once we find a newer, shinier toy to play with.

Tweet For A Track lets you easily trade a mp3 for a tweet from your fans. And best of all, it’s free!

It works like this:

1. You upload an MP3 and post a tweet with a link to download the free song.

2. To get the free MP3, your followers re-tweet and are emailed a download link.

3. As their followers see their tweets, more tweets are re-posted and the MP3 is spread virally.

Sounds like a pretty neat idea. Let me know if any of you have tried it.

U2 Live on YouTube

If you’re a fan of U2, you probably already know this, but if not, here’s the latest:

U2 is going to be streaming a concert live via YouTube. Fans will be able to watch the band’s live performance at the Rose Bowl on U2’s YouTube Channel.

The event takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 8 p.m. PT. The show will also be re-broadcast the following day. This will be viewable in the following countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, U.K. and U.S.

Get your music on Rock Band

Soon, you will be able to use tools provided by video game Rock Band to upload your music to the game’s community to be played by anyone. Approved tracks will go into the Rock Band store and on XBox’s Live Marketplace. For every purchase and download, you can receive a cut.

This is revolutionary! I’d like to see if any of you actually try it out.

BlackBerry Loves U2

If you haven’t heard yet, U2 has teamed up with none other than BlackBerry to offer a mobile album. It is a free application for your BlackBerry that includes a variety of content for U2 fans: photos, videos, news, interviews, lyrics and samples of music from the new U2 album. Tracks from the album, or the complete album in full, can be downloaded from your BlackBerry, as well.

Social networking is also being planned in a second phase of the mobile album.
